Performance Short Period Policy

Ready whenever you are...

Short period insurance is not just for short films.

Feature films, music videos, kit tests, corporate videos and commercials are just some of the other projects that may also need insurance for a short period of time.

If you are planning a production which is scheduled for 90 days or less, Performance can provide you with cover at a time that is convenient for you - 24/7/365.

Our short period quote and buy system is available on your desktop, tablet or smartphone, so you can get cover no matter where you are.

We provide instant estimates as you choose your cover, so you can see at a glance what the likely cost is going to be.

Once you have purchased cover with a debit or credit card, we will immediately email your policy documents to you for safe keeping. We also store a copy online for you to download at any time.

You can also amend your short period policy once you have purchased it, just in case you have forgotten to add something.

Our cover is accepted by all major hire companies, and is simple and easy for you to arrange – even outside of normal working hours!  What’s more, your check-out with the hire company should now be quicker, as we have created an app for them that allows them to confirm your insurance cover without having to hang on the phone, even when we are shut!

FAQs

We only offer short period cover through our online system, which you can access at the top of this page.  This ensures that not only will you get our best rates – but you will also get your documents instantly too!

Yes, our online system will provide you with an instant estimate as soon as you simply select the cover you want!

No, you don’t have to register online to get an estimate.  However, we won’t be able to provide you with a full quote, and we can’t save anything for you to come back to, unless you provide us with your details and register.

You’ll be pleased to know that there is no lengthy registration process (just your details and a password are required).

Being regulated, we promise not to sell your details on, bombard you with lots of emails or pass your info to anyone else that would spam you.  We get really upset when that happens and we know that you would too!

You can read how passionate we are about your privacy here.

It can vary as different people want different covers, but most people are able to get what they want somewhere between 5-10 minutes, depending on their internet connection and their typing speed!  As we don’t offer short period cover over the phone, you can even get a quote when we are shut!

Your documents are available to download the moment you get a quote or purchase a policy – we even email them to you instantly as well, so that you can keep these handy!

Always check your Junk mailbox, as sometimes they can sneak their way in there.  If you accidentally delete the email, or really can’t find it anywhere, don’t panic! We store your documents securely on our site for you - so you can simply log back in and pick them up from the system at any time!

There should be one entity (this can be either a person, or a limited company), who assumes overall responsibility for your project (e.g. Leen Productions Ltd).  Their name should be on the filming permit, the equipment hire agreement, and other contracts.  It is they with whom the buck stops!  They should be the policyholder in these circumstances.

Yes, whether you are a sole-trader with a trading name, a partnership or just an individual, we can offer online cover to you.  Just ensure that you put your full name, as the policyholder.

You will need to have the following information in order to get a full validated quotation:

Freelancer:

  • Hired In Equipment Sums Insured from the hirer

  • Dates you are picking up and dropping off the equipment

  • Limit of Public Liability Indemnity you are required to hold

  • Passport Number and/or Driving Licence Number

  • The rest of the information you will know

Company:

  • Hired In Equipment Sums Insured from the hirer

  • Dates you are picking up and dropping off the equipment

  • Limit of Public Liability Indemnity you are required to hold

  • Company Directors Full Name

  • Company Directors Home Address

  • Company Directors Home Telephone Number

  • Company Directors Mobile Number

  • Company Directors Date of Birth

  • Passport Number and/or Driving Licence Number

In our effort to support the industry and help reduce fraudulent policy purchases, we now ask for more detailed information of individuals related to the policyholder. Should you want further information regarding this please contact the performance team on 0208 256 4930.

Unfortunately, we have seen a handful of people that have used a cancelled policy document to hire equipment, or obtain a filming permit fraudulently.  To protect the wider media community, there are no cancellation rights under the policy – so please check your details carefully before you purchase!

However, if you have made a legitimate mistake in your cover which cannot be amended, please speak to us, as we will do our best to work with you to get the correct cover you need.  Under exceptional circumstances, we may ask you to re-purchase the correct cover, and then may be able to refund the incorrect policy – but speak to us first!

Yes, you can amend your cover upwards and also certain other aspects of your policy.  For the same reason as mentioned in the cancellation section above, you will be unable to reduce your cover, or remove sections of your policy, once you have purchased.

If you feel you have exceptional circumstances, please speak to us and we will try our best to help.

You’d need to ask the owner.

The Sum Insured should represent the total replacement value of the kit AS NEW at today’s prices.  You should be provided with this figure from the person or company who owns the kit.  We strongly advise that you do not estimate this figure yourself as, if this is wrong, you could be liable for the shortfall in the event of a claim, rather than the owner of the kit who gave you the wrong figure!

You could always send the hire company, or person you are hiring from, a copy of your quote to check that they are happy with the sum insured.

An Excess is the first amount of any claim that you are responsible for.  Usually, this is deducted from any settlement you receive from the insurers.

Excesses apply under the following sections of cover, and these will be detailed on your quotation and policy schedules, when you come to produce them:

  • Property Damage

  • Producers Indemnity

  • Public Liability

Whilst we can only offer short period cover online (and there are lots of help texts available to guide you through the process), we understand that sometimes you just want to speak to a human being!  Although they will not be able to provide a quote for you, the Performance Team will be happy to answer any burning questions that you have.

If you have your own kit, this really should be insured under an annual policy (as it could be stolen or suffer damage at any time).  The only exception to this rule is where you have purchased equipment within the last 90 days, and then specifically for the production you are insuring.  If you have owned the kit for more than 90 days, you won’t be covered - even if you have purchased cover online for your own kit - so please contact the Performance Team to get an annual policy!

As this is not available online, please speak to a member of the Performance Team, who will be happy to arrange this for you.
