The Belfast Media Festival 2017

This year the Performance team had the opportunity of being part of the 2017 Belfast Media Festival 2017!

The amazing 2 day event was held for the second time at the MAC Belfast. This year, there were over 600 attendees ranging from students and Freelancers to Managing Directors and CEOs. Gareth Graham, Michael Wood and Will Tisdall were in Northern Ireland from Thursday 16th to Friday 17th November.

Over the course of the festival, we were set up in the foyer, where we offered advice and met a wide range of film and media professionals. We were also part of a discussion session called Starting Up a New Company in Virtual Reality, Animation and Gaming put on by Belfast City Council which was Chaired by Phil Morrow the CEO of Wild Rover Productions and Retinize.

On the panel were Deepa Mann-Kler from VRNI and Neon, Mark Gordon of Score Draw Music, Billy May from Speed Motion and Nigel McAlpine from Story FX with experts on the floor including Performance's very own Gareth Graham advising on insurance aspects and Andrew Rajan advising on the legal side when setting up a business.

On our last day in Belfast, we hosted a “Meet Industry Professionals” event in The Hub which was very well attended, including special guests Sean Murray from NI Camera Hire, Relapse Pictures and Stephen Large, a Freelance Writer.

Stephen Lange has been selected for the BBC Writers Room 2017 and wrote the hilarious local Production “Three’s a Shroud”, which ran at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast through October as part of the Belfast Comedy Festival, it's a great a comedic spin on Belfast’s Undertaking Business – check out our twitter page for pics!

Sean Murray is the owner of NI Camera Hire and an established filmmaker, specialising in documentary filmmaking. Sean Murray’s experience has also given him the opportunity to be a part of various panels. He is currently working on an investigative documentary based on a key moment in Belfast’s history.

We also sponsored the Children's and Animations awards as part of the RTS Northern Ireland Awards ceremony on Thursday 16th November - part of Digital Cities Belfast #digibelfast which ran from 11th -17th November. Huge congratulations to the winners of the Children’s/Animation Awards - Zodiak Kids Studios UK for Secret Life of Boys! (pictured below)
