Performance premiere at Film Expo South 2017
Last week we attended Film Expo South held at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
It was our first appearance at the exhibition and we were blown away by the fun-filled, informative atmosphere. With attendees including scriptwriters, actors, producers, directors and freelancers, it was a great mix of people from within the film and media industry….there was even room for a specialist film and media insurance provider!
With our stand at the front of the exhibition hall, it gave us a great opportunity to network and tell people about the products and services we can provide the creative industry. The entire team had some great conversations on the day that we hope and believe will continue throughout 2017.
Our prize draw was a great success and Ross Wilson of React Films was the lucky winner of the case of wine and champagne, just in time for Valentine’s Day!
In the morning we had some interesting panel debates including subjects such as crowdfunding, pitch workshops and the sound surgery. I was pleased to take part in one of the sessions titled ‘Production on Location, Safely pushing the boundaries’.
The panel was hosted by Bryan Stanislas - H20 Films and we were also joined by Brian Watkins of B W Event Medical Services who talked about the potential health and safety risks on set. For me, this was an opportunity to talk with the audience about the importance of risk assessments and share some of the stories we see and hear about from our insurance clients. I wanted to stress the point insurance is not there to be a barrier against the creative ideas, we just want to work with this talent and try and make sure it is delivered with minimal risk, avoiding any potential horror stories.
In the afternoon I had my onscreen debut by taking part in the Expo’s vlog. However, I’m still waiting for the phone to ring for future screen bookings!
Myself and the team also took the opportunity to watch some of the actor’s monologues in the Atrium, the talent on show was fantastic, it was a great experience to watch and listen so close up.
A special thanks to Gillian Tully and her team of helpers who made the event such a success and made me and the rest of the Performance Film & Media team feel so welcome throughout the day. We wish the event every success in the future!
So, our first exhibition of the year completed and we are looking forward to speaking and supporting many more people, businesses and projects throughout 2017.
