However, the solution can be found in the form of a specialist insurance scheme for schools, which has been designed to enable you to insure against the costs of hiring supply staff.
There are two independent schemes, one specifically for smaller Infant or Junior schools, and the other is a Budget Protection Scheme designed for larger schools, accommodating 20 to 200 employees. Both schemes can include part-time and support staff, ensuring the entire workforce is covered, and your school can continue to function and educate its pupils.

The Budget Protection scheme is a sophisticated schools insurance solution, allowing your school to retain control over your own staff absence budget. Removing concerns about the excessive costs of long term or increased levels of absence. We work with you to calculate an average budget, based on previous years’ absence costs and even if you do experience higher levels of absence, you are still covered.
This option, known as an aggregate excess policy, is a proven alternative to traditional insurance, and is referred to in the DCSF Supply Teacher Insurance publication, as possibly the most efficient arrangement for supply teacher costs.
